Shinobi Ranks

Academy Students are the lowest rank possible. They aren’t even considered real ninja yet, considering they are in the academy and learning the basic ninja arts. They are the weakest and are learning the basic E-Rank Jutsu, and of course D-Ranks. After they learn all of the E-Rank Jutsu, they are eligible to take the Genin Exams.

Genin is the first official rank of being a ninja. They are assigned in 3 man squads that are supervised by Jonin and occasionally experienced Chunin. They are often weak but make up for it with their lessons that are taught by their sensei. Their arsenals include D and C-Rank jutsu, and occasionally a B-Rank. During war, they usually protect the citizens and the academy students.

Chunin is the rank that tells the civilians that they are reliable ninja. They have survived the Chunin Exams, and thus are worthy of praise. They are capable ninja whose arsenal usually includes C and B-Rank jutsu, and usually an A-Rank as their trump card. Some are better suited for teaching in the academy because of their maturity while others are team leaders for small, but specialized teams. They usually help fight out on the front line during war, while having those specialized teams for dirty work.

Jonin is the highest normal rank in the ninja world. They are all very experienced, seeing as they have lived all of their life as a ninja. They are in charge of Genin squads in order for them to become great shinobi and hopefully for those same genin to become Jonin themselves one day. Their usual lineup of jutsu includes B and A-Rank jutsu, and the elite Jonin can obtain a S-Rank. During war, they fight on the frontline and make up most of the manpower.

Sannin are legendary ninja. This is the highest rank, although it’s usually seen as just a nickname. There are few Sannin, usually 2-3 for every major Nation. They are practically at the level of a Kage, which makes them the obvious candidates for Kage when an election or whatever comes around. Their arsenal usually is greatly balanced of A, S-Ranks, and SS-Ranks as their trump cards. They don’t have many SS-Ranks seeing as they deplete them of a great amount of chakra. They are seen as generals during time of war.

Kage is the leader of the village. It is but a title and is officially considered as a Sannin, although not categorized as one. They are in office because of their great experience and maturity. Their wisdom is greatly valued, and the Kage is usually seen as the hero and strongest of the village although Sannin have potential to be stronger. Their arsenals contain the same as Sannin, A, S-Ranks, and SS-Ranks as their ultimate jutsu.
